So tomorrow...

Makes 3 years since I moved here. That means three years ago today I was smoking like a chimeny-packing like a maniac-and repeatedly walking into rooms with no idea why I walked in there?
My last two goodbye were D and S (look I write like a real Blogger now!) that were coming at the airport. But this the post isn't about nostalgia - this post is about extortion and driving.

I had three years from the time I moved here to transfer my drivers license without having to take 28 classes (at 45$ a pop). So I started the process 32 months ago-then realized that I would still have to pay cash that I didn't have so let it go for a while. Finally I got to the point where it didn't matter that I didn't have any cash-now or never. So I go with my form and they tell me I need a new one, can't get the new one-there's a strike. O.k. get the new one, bring it to three more offices before I'm told that I need a letter faxed from the DMV in Chicago saying that I had my license before moving here (the current one was issued in '03) so I get my mom to shlep down to the DMV to get the form that said How long I've been driving. 18 years! Damn I must be gettin' old. Well the form I got only said that my current record was clear of tickets and gave the same issue date. Fuck. wait-did they say Fax? how about scanned emailed (ahem) "taken care of" and then printed.

Who accepts faxes of official documents?

So I took the test today and was with two other people who also took the test-I was the only one who the tester didn't hold onto the "oh Shit" bar while I was driving. Let alone grabbing the wheel or using his petals.

Now here they don't tell you if you passed or failed right after the test - something about too many acts of violence against the testers. When I started writing this I didn't know if I had passed or not - now I know that after I jump through two more hoops, paying two more fee I will be legal to drive! oh yeah! now I just need a car......
